Discussion Questions

After reading A Wrinkle in Time , I have come up with some questions that relate to the characters and the plot in the story that can be discussion topics with other people when talking about this novel. I plan to share these questions with a small group at school and I look forward to hearing classmates' answers and compare them to my own.

  1. In the book, the kids travel to another planet called Camazotz. On Camazotz, everything is orderly and organized and everyday is routinely the same. Each person on the planet is exactly alike and robotic. The force that held Meg and Charles’s father captive in prison in Camazotz claims that the reason everybody is alike on his planet is because all humans are created equally. Meg tried to explain that “like” and “equal” are not the same thing at all but was not successful when trying to explain it. How can you explain that all humans are created equally but no one is exactly alike?

  2. Meg goes as far as dangerously travelling to another planet all by herself in the galaxy to save her brother from an evil force. Who in your life would you go to such extremes to keep safe?

  3. Meg, Charles, and Calvin are new and sceptical to the idea of travelling to different planets with the three Mrs. W’s. When they asked questions about the traveling process and what other planets are like, the answers they received usually made them even more confused. Sometimes the kids would get so frustrated when nothing was making sense, but most of the time they were fascinated and willing to learn more. When you’re at school and don’t understand something (ie: being completely lost in math class), are you open and willing to learn more or are you more closed-minded and not willing to ask questions to understand it better?
